& Requirements
The adult program is for men and women ages 13 and up. Utilizing
martial arts training, the primary focus of the adult program is to develop each student's
confidence, physical conditioning and self-defense skills. Students are taught that
having a "good attitude" at all times is the most important aspect of their
training.
Class Rules:
1. All instructors and assistants must be called
"Mr.", "Mrs.", "Sir" or "Ma'am".
2. Students should arrive ten minutes prior to scheduled class start time.
3. All students are required to purchase a manual which must be signed after
each class.
4. Children may accompany adult students to class. However, they must
bring appropriate
entertainment to keep them occupied
and quiet (i.e. homework, coloring books, etc.).
5. Skills learned must be used for art, sport and self-defense only.
6. Students must wear their complete uniform (see below) to all classes.
7. For safety reasons, students may not wear jewelry (earrings, watches,
rings, necklaces,
etc.) during class.

Uniforms:
Class Uniforms:
All students must wear a solid white karate uniform with an elastic
waistband to participate in class. Uniforms can be purchased from the instructor.
By the second week of receiving their uniform, students must have their LAST
name put on the back of their uniform top in 2" BLACK BLOCK letters
(other styles and colors are not acceptable). This must be done professionally with
vinyl letters or embroidery (no hand printing or painting).
Uniforms must be kept clean and neat. The uniform should be washed
in cold water, however never wash the belt regardless of how dirty it gets. Students
must wear their complete uniform to class (top, pants and belt). Before or after
class, it is proper to wear the uniform pants and a t-shirt. Never wear the top
without the belt and/or uniform pants.
Tournament Uniforms:
A special tournament uniform can be purchased and worn at specific times by
any yellow belt or above student. Adult students must have their LAST name put on
the back of this uniform top in 2" WHITE BLOCK letters (other styles
and colors are not acceptable).
The tournament uniform may be worn at the following times:
* any tournament
* in class 4 weeks prior to an A.S.K. or H.C.K. tournament
* rank tests
* special functions and seminars

Patches:
Only H.C.K. approved patches are to be worn on the uniform. Two of
these patches, the A.S.K. patch (student's
left side) and the H.C.K. patch (student's right side) and are awarded to the student upon earning the yellow and orange belt, respectively.

Beginner students compete only in kata while advanced students (yellow belts and
above) compete in both kata and sparring.
The rules for sparring at tournaments are the same as those followed in
class. Advanced students must provide their own mouth piece, cup & supporter,
head, hand and foot gear for tournaments.

Adult Karate Camps:
Adult karate camps are held twice each year in April and October.
These camps are held at Wolf Creek Park in Lake Livingston, north of Houston. Camp
begins Friday night and continues through Sunday morning. Only
adult karate students
may participate in the activities of camp. Students must be at least
16 years of
age. Junior senior students (ages 13-15) should speak with their
instructor. They may be able to attend under certain conditions.
Camps are designed for 10% martial arts training and 90%
self-defense exercises. The martial arts training consists of
stick fighting and obstacle course contests. The self-defense
exercises consist of training in gun, knife, club, and multiple attack
defenses. There are day and night maneuvers where participants are
attacked several times by various means while walking down obstacle
ridden, wooded trails. The camp is designed to place students in
as real life street situations as possible without compromising their
safety.
One karate camp is required for students to earn their
green belts. Two camps are required for the rank of brown belt,
and four are required to obtain a Black Belt.

Seminars:
Special training seminars (normally free of charge) are held throughout
the year for all adult students and instructors. These seminars focus on topics such
as teaching and assisting in class, refereeing and judging in class and at tournaments,
leadership skills, communication skills, attitude, etc. These seminars are always
optional, but provide advanced training for the adult students.
